Yamaha Pacifica light restoration project

edanwilkinson

I picked up this guitar cheap off a friend, and it thought it would be an easy project (so I thought!) As it needed new strings and potentially new springs as it didn't hold tuning very well and the Tremolo had lifted.

The first thing I did was remove the old strings and clean the body of the guitar down, but found that it needed more work, including a deep clean of the tuners.

When initially testing the guitar, the dual pickup seemed loose and didn’t sit flat. I removed the scratch plate and found that the springs were mismatched, with two single coil springs on one side!

The overall condition of the Tremolo bridge was very poor so I decided to replace it and managed to source a replacement one for a reasonable price. This ended up being significantly cheaper than buying all the saddles screws and springs separately.

When removing the Tremolo I found the guitar only had one spring holding the back of it in place. As these are essential I replaced the single spring with 3 replacements.

I then re-assembled the guitar and put a new set of strings on. Although it does still look well used, it plays significantly better and stays in tune.
